WHY DO NEW GENERATION WIVES NOT PREFER JOINT FAMILY IN INDIA ~ Nihar's Blog

This is really a common question now a days, " Why new generation wives do not prefer joint family in India ?

I am an engineering graduate but I have a great interest in human psychology. I always consider facts and tries to find out the possible reasons instead of judging them. My opinions are written below.

1. Dressing: Since girls are staying away from home they prefer to adopt the western way of living as it is easy to access. They do not want to cover themselves completely while at home. They prefer to wear loose clothes and strictly no shawl inside the home and tight undergarments, They meant brassiere is a big headache to freely sit at home. Dressing like that is a little awkward if there is another male at home other than their husband. During summer they prefer shorts and a T-shirt and this is impossible in a joint family in India.

2. For them, romance is not restricted to the bedroom. They would love to cuddle their husband and watch a movie on the sofa

3. Behavior: Most of the girls are working now. They just want to sit relax when at home after duty, with their legs lifted up and not with a straight posture. Keeping legs above leg in front of in-laws is considered rude and keeping it on sofa or chair is out of the question as they consider it as disrespect to elders

4.Party: Most of the girls are doing party these days and want to continue these habits after marriage too. They like to share drinks with their husband, Even husbands won't dare to drink inside the home, so even if you go out and then coming home drinking alcohol is a big joke if you are in a joint family.

5.Career: Girls are now self-dependent which is a good thing, but there are chances of late coming. This completely depends on your in-laws, they may throw tantrums or may not.

6.Cooking: Cooking has become a headache for girls now. They do not like cooking much. They just cook for survival. This will not work if you have other elders at home. They may cook, but they expect you to spend the same amount of time in the kitchen with them.

7.Fitness: As health is wealth, everyone spending a lot on good health and attractive physique. They want to workout in the gym. Suppose you reach home at 7 pm and straightly go to the gym and come back at 9 pm and then cook and eat. This may not possible to maintain with in-laws living with you.

I don't know how many will agree with my assumptions, these are what I have noticed in society. I'm not supporting feminism nor in the against of it. This is just a way of life, today's generation prefers to live. Though the above said are somehow important besides we have the same amount of responsibilities towards family and society. This is a real Indian culture.
