AYODHYA, A DISPUTED LAND

AYODHYA : 

         
Ayodhya is a city in the Indian state of the U.P. which is well known for the birthplace of Lord Ram worldwide.

It is believed that In the early medieval time Lord Ram Temple was built.



SOME IMPORTANT FACTS AND YEARS TO REMEMBER :


(1528-1529 ) : A mosque in Ayodhya ( Babri Masjid ) was built by 
                                     General Mir BaQI (A general of  Babar )

This was the time while Muslims used to pray inside the mosque and Hindus used to pray just outside (Sita Rasoi and Chabutra).

1853: First religious local rioting was witnessed.

1855: Mahant RaghuBir Das filed the demand in Faridabad court to build a temple to pray on that land but it was rejected by the honorable court.


September, 22/1949: 22 December night Hindu have been claiming a Ram Idol and appear inside the mosque then the Muslim community started protesting. It was the time while This site was declared as  "Disputed Land " by the Govt.


Reasons: Muslim community claims this land as Babri Masjid Land on the contrary Hindus Claimed it as Ram Idol Land


January 1950: Mahant Ramchandra Das and Gopal Singh Visharad had appealed to the court, Seeking permission for Hindu devotees to pray there. It was the 2nd time, Court had rejected the petition

1959: Nirmohi Akhara and Raghunath filed an appeal to Faridabad court for the control administration.

1961: The UP Sunni Work Board filed an appeal to handover this site to the work board.

1986: Babri mosque action committee in protest.

1980's era :( BJP was formed on 6 April 1980 )
                 : BJP (RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Jointly protested on the Ayodhya dispute.

1984: RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad organized in "Dharma Sansad "{Aim was- To bring Ram Mandir issue to national politics}

1986: For the 1st time, the Government gave permission to Hindu to Pray in this land "which made the Muslim community to do protest.

         : Organizations and political parties like -BJP, RSS, VISHWA HINDU PARISHAD AND
           BAJRANG DAL started a religious-political campaign to build a temple in AYODHYA.

                BJP started a social campaign this time :

                             1) Kar Seva: Voluntary work
                             2) Shila Poojan: Collected bricks and build a temple in Ayodhya.

August 1989: All suits are shifted to the Allahabad high court.

November 1989: P.M Rajiv Gandhi gave permission for Shilanyas near the disputed areas which cost to  Congress Govt. Congress Lost the Govt.

1990: V.P Singh became Prime Minister with joint BJP and left Parties

                    Advani toured 10000 km from Somnath in Gujarat to Ayodhya in U.P. Soon after other 
                    parties joined protests on this issue.

23 October 1990: Advani was arrested in Bihar then BJP was un-supported  by Govt. which made
                              Govt. to lose power.




TURNING POINT   

1991: BJP came to the power in U.P under C.M. Kalyan Singh while the congress party returned to power under P.M. P.V Narsimha Rao.
                 
         BJP leaders - L.K Advani, Uma Bharti, and Murli Manohar Joshi campaigned in all over India 
         to build the Ayodhya Temple.

1992: BJP Govt. acquired 2.77 acres of the disputed site for tourism purpose and leased to the
           Janmabhoomi Nyas Trust then Allahabad High court banned permanent construction.

July 1992: Kar Sevak tried for the construction in the disputed areas but failed!

1992: Vishwa Hindu Parishad and RSS announced on 6th December to start the construction of 
          bricks.

2 lakhs of people were gathered; Made a small Ram Temple by the demolition of the mosque.
In the evening, C.M Kalyan Singh resigned.

           Next day, Muslim community people protested and riots started in all over the India and
           neighbor country ( Pakistan, Afghanistan )
          
          4000-5000 people died all over the country.

1993: Mumbai Blast   

> Liberhan commission created in 1992

7 Jan 1993: Govt. declared 67.7 acres of land is disputed including the 42 acres acquired by
                     Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas.

2002: RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) announced for the temple construction by 15 march 2002.

Several people reached in Ayodhya to build a temple. Many of them were killed.

2003: The Allahabad high court ordered ASI ( Archaeological Survey of India ) for the excavation at Ayodhya site. After the successful excavation, ASI reported to the High court.
           

           The architecture was found in Buddhist Structure (10th century ) 


2009: Liberhan commission submitted a report to the P.M  Manmohan Singh but the report was not
           published in public.

November 2009: Home Minister " P. Chidambaram " tabled the report in parliament. This report blamed the Babri Masjid demolition by 68 people including " L.K Advani, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Murli Manohar Joshi, and former C.M Kalyan Singh.


2010: Allahabad  High Court finally declared this disputed area to be divided into a three-way.

                    1) Ram Lalla Virajman
           
                    2) Sunni Waqf Board

                    3) Nirmohi Akhara

                          
2016: Subramanian Swamy filed a petition for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

11 August 2017: The THREE-JUDGE BENCH of the supreme court " CJI Dipak Mishra, 
                           Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Abdul Nazeer " to hear the appeal.


2018: 7 Judge Bench for reconsideration.

9 November 2019: After a long controversy, A FIVE MEMBER OF BENCH was created to take care of this issue.
     
                               : The bench headed by CJI of India "RANJAN GOGOI " and 
                                justice Ashok  Bhushan, Justice S. Abdul Nazeer, Justice SA Bobde
                                and Justice DY Chandrachud.

9 November 2019: Supreme Court gave a final conclusion. Chapter of the decision was declared.
                                       ( Under the Article 142 )

1) 2.77 acre of the disputed area given to Ram Lalla  Virajman Trust


2) 5 acres of alternative land near to Ayodhya was given to Sunni Central Waqf Board to a built mosque.
                               

     {  Ayodhya's case had been India's most controversial court case till now.  }
